We caught up with Shane from Australia’s DZ Deathrays to find out what they’re excited about for this trip.

We are looking forward to having you in South Africa. Have you been before? What are your expectations of our country?

We are also looking forward to coming over there! We haven’t been there before but from what we have heard from our friends Dune Rats it’s a really awesome place to play.

Having toured extensively, what is your favourite country to perform in?

It’s hard to say, we love going overseas and playing in new territories but it’s always great to play at home in Australia as that is where our biggest fan base is, so the shows are completely crazy over here. But thats almost 10 years worth of touring!

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

Personally some of my biggest influences are Hot Snakes, DFA1979 and Beach house more recently. We listen to so much different music, dance to hardcore to classic rock and more blissful stuff you just take bits and pieces from everything and try to smash it all into the style that most reflects yourself.

Do you think your sound has changed over the years? What can fans expect from your latest album?

Yes I think so, I think that we have also held on to certain elements over the 3 records. I think we have delved deeper in to writing stronger melodies on this latest one, and that was a conscious effort to do so. We wanted songs with great vocal hooks and then could build the riffs around them.

What are you busy with for the rest of 2018?

Well the next thing we do is head over to South Africa and then back to Australia before going on tour in New Zealand and Australia for our Album tour. It’s pretty cool though that South Africa get to be the first place DZ tour to on this album campaign!
