Jeremy Loops recently announced the release of his brand new album ‘Critical As Water’, out 16 March, which is available for pre-order now. Off the back of huge fan fair for his first single ‘Waves’and the announcement of a sprawling world tour, Jeremy Loops releases his new single ‘Freak’ today, 23 February.
Produced by Will Hicks (Ed Sheeran, Lily Allen, Bastille), Freak is a smooth reggae-infused cut, built around a thumping bass line, Loops’ signature guitar work, and accented by a lush horn section.
Lyrically, the record pokes fun at the comical levels of materialism in mainstream music today. Speaking on Freak, Jeremy says ‘I love rap music and enjoy the odd pop record too, but the content often feels so contrived, to the point of being absurd. I find joy in many of the things I’ve found joy in since I was young. The things that don’t cost millions of dollars to take part in. I feel like most of us are like that, and we’re just resigned to being constantly sold on bling and private yachts. And if it makes us freaks for rejecting and laughing at what pop culture is trying to sell us, then so be it.’
Freak is the second single from Jeremy Loops’ album Critical As Water, scheduled for worldwide release on 16 March.
The follow up to his acclaimed debut album Trading Change, which won iTunes SA’s album of the year and MTV Africa’s Best Alternative Album, Critical As Water is produced by Will Hicks, with additional production and writing contributions by Jake Gosling (The Libertines, Shawn Mendes, Lady Gaga). The album’s first single ‘Waves’ is a huge hit in SA and is also moving up Germany’s airplay charts, as well as making it into Spotify’s viral charts in Australia, New Zealand, And Switzerland.
In support of the album’s release, Jeremy Loops embarks on a world tour, with turns in Europe, North America, Australia/NZ. Highlight stops on his Critical As Water World Tour include marquee venues like O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London and Paradiso in Amsterdam.
