Our Top 5 SA Albums / EPs For 2015

As 2015 slowly comes to an end, it is time to show our love for the artists that brought us another another year of great local music!

Without further ado, in no particular order, here are our Top 5 Albums for 2015:

1. Francois van Coke – Francois van Coke

With two successful bands (Van Coke Kartel and Fokofpolisiekar) under his belt, Francois van Coke managed to release his debut solo album with great success – in fact, it is the Best Afrikaans Album of 2015 on iTunes and Apple Music.

Check out the November SA Artist Spotlight interview with Francois van Coke here.

2. Shortstraw – Youthless

Releasing a second album without disappointment to the fans is always a difficult task but Shortstraw definitely showed to be worthy of it. They kept the same sound and energy that brought them their fame with great consistency. It will be interesting to see if they change things up a little in the years to follow.

Check out our November interview with Shortstraw here.

3. Zebra & Giraffe – Slow Motion EP

Slow Motion is an exciting experimental EP in which Zebra & Giraffe manage to break away from their usual sound and show us a different side to them.

4. Lunatic Wolf – To The Adventure

Although the album was released in November 2014, it only managed to gain popularity throughout 2015 and is therefore on this year’s top album list. Needless to say, Lunatic Wolf have certainly been one of the most exciting new-comers for the local folk-rock genre.

5. Van T – We’re Still Running

We’re Still Running is probably one of the best balanced albums in terms of genres we got to hear this year. This debut album by Van T modestly shows off her superb vocals over catchy, bluesy melodies.
