With so much new music being released in 2015 it was a tough job coming up with our Top 5 singles for the year. It gave Simon the chance to re-listen to heaps of amazing local music, and here is our official Top 5 SA Singles for 2015:
5. ‘All I Really Want’ by The Plastics
This year saw The Plastics release their much anticipated third studio album, ‘In Threes’ – and even went the bold route of making it available for free download! ‘All I Really Want’ was the second track to be released off the album, and as far as we’re concerned, this was one of the best singles to hit the local music scene in 2015.
4. ‘Darling’ by Majozi
You know you’ve got a good song when people know the song before they know who’s singing it. It feels like that is what happened with newcomer Majozi and his huge single ‘Darling’ which has been on high rotation across various radio platforms for months. We can’t wait to hear more from this rising star in 2016!
3. ‘We Dance Again’ by Black Coffee & Nakhane Toure
Black Coffee and Nakhane Toure were put in a studio together and told to come up with a massive track… no pressure! Yet it worked, and South Africa fell in love with ‘We Dance Again’. What a song!
2. ‘Always’ by Gangs of Ballet
Gangs of Ballet have had a big year finding their groove as a 3-piece band, touring relentlessly and successfully launching the first part of a 3-stage album release ‘Form & Function’. The first single off the new album was ‘Always’ which caused fans to fall in love with the Durban boys all over again, and earns them a spot in our top 5 singles for 2015.
1. ‘Toe Vind Ek Jou’ by Francois van Coke & Karen Zoid
It’s the easiest choice for our single of the year. And with over 1,181,800 million views on YouTube since the music video was released in April, it’s clear that South Africa agrees that ‘Toe Vind Ek Jou’ by Francois van Coke & Karen Zoid wins hands down! The year was truly owned by these two gems of the local music industry, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in 2016!
