As they prepare to launch their debut album, we caught up with Skylight to hear more about what they’ve been up to.
Since the success of your single ‘Always Enough’ in 2010 it feels like Skylight has been fairly quite in the local music scene. What have you been up to since then?
We have written and recorded our debut album. We have poured every bit of heart and soul into it! It unfortunately took us longer than expected. This was mainly due to the nodules that had grown on my vocal cords. This was quite a big setback for us, but we pulled together and continued to move forward. It’s important to persevere! So… after a major lifestyle adjustment and finding a vocal coach, my vocal cords have healed and I’m ready to use them.
The make-up of the band has changed slightly. Who makes up Skylight now?
Wesley Ayliffe is the newest member. We met this legend at the studio, and it was love at first sight. Skylight is: Greg Jorden – lead vocals and guitar; Wesley Ayliffe – lead guitar and backing vocals; Peter Klein – bass; Bradley Cumming – drums.
What is the overall message you as a band are hoping to communicate through your music?
There’s so much more to life than just getting through every day. We believe everyone is made for more.
What, in your opinion, is the state of the local music industry at the moment?
It’s so inspiring to see more and more SA artists doing so well on the charts. The songs and recordings are getting better and better. We’d love to see the live scene begin to thrive.
Where can fans find your music and see you live next?
